HEY to the Purple and Golden's of Lancaster High School...
I never thought that I would miss a good personal computer (pc) with a good office program…. heck, I never thought I would have to deal with a pc, but I found it was frustrating me beyond my comfort level with a slow and antiquated pc. Folks, I am uptown now with a dual core processor, up-to-date software, and a wireless connection that lets me stand at the sink, wash dishes and never miss a pc beat. What a coupe!!!! Now all I need is to sit down and get the Current Events page completed since we are working quite diligently to keep it updated and relevant.
It seems that ‘things' have been very quiet recently, but I am sure we will all get excited soon since that 50th Reunion is bearing down on us. Please remember that those of us who are in the Lancaster area want to assist the out-of-towners in any way we can to make your visit for the Reunion the best experience you have known. Also, should you need assistance with transportation, feel free to e-mail us to communicate and make plans. Of course you can also contact any of the members of the Reunion Planning Committee.
While you are making your plans to attend the Reunion, please take time to delve into our website where you will find so many new pictures that we hope you will enjoy.. We have many of our friends who need to be identified (especially on the Early History web page), which will document our website as a repository for our class history. Can you imagine many years from now when one of our grandchildren accesses LHS59.org and discovers the face of a relative, and knows it is correct because it is properly labeled. I hope you can help us with identification of the those young people in the photographs.
Just a lil'challenge… who of our classmates met for a good time in Florida recently? The answer is on the website at Special Event 2009A.
Do you have a challenge to throw out to a classmate in preparation for seeing that person at the Reunion? Just send it to me (tilliephilo@sbcglobal.net) and we will add it to the Current Events page in July. Please note that I am taking it a bit easier, so will be doing a new Current Events page every other month until the snow flies.
Today's chuckle...
I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the local shopping center and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever pup had fresh air. She was stretched full out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there.
I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car, and saying emphatically, 'Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay! Stay!'
The driver of a nearby car, a pretty young blonde lady, gave me a strange look and said, 'Why don't you just put it in park?' So I did.

Well, how was the Doowop quiz for you? I just love those things that spur the mind and memories of the fun times in high school. A discovery that I made was that I didn't really listen to the music closely in 1959, but do listen more closely today. I wonder why?

Gee, we have finally reached 66 degrees F outside with a lil'sun here in central Ohio, so now we can think of snow. Remember the number of “snow days” we had so we could sled, enjoy the homemade cinnamon rolls, or read a good book….not many for us. But, to recall a time when we did have those days out of school, please enjoy this picture and memories of our classmate Carol Schwendeman Welday….
I once had a student who stopped me in my tacks with his answer to my question which I will share with you now so you understand why I have shortened this diatribe.

Our Friends from 1958 and 1960
Remember all the folks from those two years who were a big part of our lives whether it was on sports teams, in Gym Class, or at those Friday night dances? They were a special part of our lives fifty years ago, so we are inviting them to be a special part of our 50th Reunion celebration on Friday Fun Night.
We have a pretty good list (except for the approximately 20 which were returned) of e-mail addresses for the Class of 1960, but can find no compilation for the Class of 1958. If someone can furnish the list of e-mail addresses (please forward to tilliephilo@sbcglobal.net), we will send an invitation to them as well. For the formal invitations, see: /reunplancom.htm. Otherwise we will need to spread this by word of mouth. Please invite all who were a part of either the 1958 or 1960 class to join us on Friday, August 21, 2009, 7:00 pm at the Moose Lodge on Sugar Grove Road, and watch for updates and maps to the 50th Reunion (see: /reunplancom.htm)

SURVEY RESULTS
Our sincere appreciation goes to the 65 people who responded to the survey that was connected to our website. In marketing classes I was always told if one received a 6% return from a survey it was counted a success. WELLLLLLLLLLL, if the 180 e-mail addresses we have is the base and 65 people responded, we have a success rate of 36%. WHOOOOOOPEEEEEEEE!!!!

Linda just sent a note saying she will be offline for a period of time due to the death of her father-in-law. At this time they are back in Pickerington, but will be returning to Florida as their permanent residence. Linda, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband at this time of difficulty and need.

Do you remember J. E. (Jack) Brown who was superintendent of schools our whole school career, and his kind and graceful wife Jane? Jane Brown passed away recently which affects two of our classmates. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and Jack as they remember their mother and mother-in-law.

NAME THAT KID CONTEST
The LHS59.org website is sponsoring a contest that will run through the Reunion August 22, 2009, when all in attendance will have had a chance to identify as many of us as possible in all of the photos on the website. Begin with the "kids" on: /earlyhist.htm
Yes, and there will be a prize for the person who submits the most correct IDs.
So, you will need to submit an easily read page, or two, identifying the photo, and using the terms 'front row', 'second row', etc, and ending with 'back row'. Then ID as many of the "children" in the photos as you can.
The photos can be found throughout the LHS59 site, but mainly on the Early History page of the /earlyhist.htm and will be provided at the Reunion for you to a have reference, but remember, this is a CONTEST, so you won't want to share too much information with your classmates.
Since we have several months to get ready for the Reunion, like ordering the PRIZE, we will just encourage you now to get started with your paper and pencil. GOOD LUCK to everyone!!!!!

AUTOGRAPH PAGES NEEDED! You will note that we have in the Class website just two sets of Mirage autograph pages from two brave souls, so we would like to also have yours. Please scan or copy your autographs to share and send them to anyone on the Editorial Committee including me if you like. If sending them is not feasible, please feel free to bring them to the Reunion and give them to a member of the Editorial Committee.
As we are all aware, it seems everything we do takes money to make it happen and our 50TH REUNION is no different. Phil tells us…….
"I was asked by the 50th Reunion Planning Committee to do some fund-raising for our class reunion coming up in August. Using the e-mails that I had at the time, I solicited a number of classmates. The response was great: We received $1,750.00 in donations so that our committee could plan on some extra enjoyment this summer. I appreciate the generosity of the classmates who gave, and, if you'd like to make your addition, please send it to our Reunion Treasurer, Jack Klinker, 403 Hilltop Dr., Lancaster 43130.
Of special note to me is that our classmate, Judy Jones Staley, who died in October, gave a very nice gift, hoping she could be with us this summer. Her loss, like all our classmate's passings, was sad, but I'm thankful we meant so much to her.

I can't hold a club, but would love to drive a cart as long as the auto siphon is working. I do hope you have heard from many who are going to participate in the Golf Outing on Saturday of our Reunion. If you haven't, maybe this will serve as a reminder for them to get in touch with you.
If anyone needs a cart driver, just let me know. Oh, someone (a guy) just told me that it doesn't work like that. I'm such a girl, I guess. ……..T
