Speaking of heart attacks, a cadiologigist sent this message out for your consideration... JUST IN CASE

Subject: SELF CPR

1. Let’s say it’s 7:25 pm and you’re going home (alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job.

2. You’re really tired, upset and/or frustrated.

3. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up in to your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home.

4. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far.

5. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself.

6. HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE?

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

7. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

8. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital for treatment and monitoring.

9. Tell as many other people as possible about this. It could save their lives!!

On Past Matters:

On Friday, February 21, 2014, five of the LHS 59er's gathered at Hale Hollow West, Black Canyon City, AZ for an afternoon of reminiscing and laughter with food and drink interspersed. Bob Yeazel had been enjoying Hale Hollow for 2 weeks so Hazel Smith-France came from her home in Peoria, Az., and Gary Felton from his home in Scottsdale, Az. to join Alan, Tillie, and Bob.

After enjoying a snack everyone loaded up in the "mountain mobile" to enjoy the desert while looking for a working gold mine located about 15 miles south of Hale Hollow. What a great venture while we enjoyed the spectacular views, and each other. The evening concluded with
dinner on the patio at the outdoor oven while being surrounded by the sunset over the Bradshaw Mountains.

Our next venture will be in March to visit a friend of Gary's who has a 10,000 cow dairy herd south of Phoenix.February 16, 2014

"Some of Lancaster High School's female athletes finally will get their letters. Tracking down more than 100 women who played sports at Lancaster High School from 1964 to 1973 — with little more than yearbook pictures as a guide — would seem to be a daunting task.

According to records from Lancaster yearbooks, 1908 was the earliest year that the school offered organized girls sports, beginning with basketball.

November 28, 2013Tillie, Tom, and Joe reported in on this item:
"It’s been 60 years since Dr. Tom Gossel’s childhood home and all his belongings were lost in a fire, but he hasn’t forgotten the local charity that helped him the next day.Dr. Gossel contacted the local Charity Newsies after six decades to offer thanks and a donation for the kindness he was shown as a 12-year-old boy who had lost everything in a house fire. The home, which is no longer standing, was at 725 W. Sixth Ave. It burned down Nov. 17, 1953, and the next day, a Newsies representative came by the home of one of Gossel’s relatives to offer to buy the boy new clothes." For the rest of the story, see (more).Tom is now retired but was an acclaimed Dean of the Pharmacy College at Ohio Northern Uiniversity. He has written a number of books on pharmacy subjects and is presently writing a history of ONU. May 18, 2013 News from Somewhere... About lots of things I need to apologize for my delinquency on this Current Events page over the past few months. I have been so busy with family and other matters that time just flies, doesn't it? We are so fortunate to live in our wonderful America, making it possible to go and do as we want, within reason of course. My first mission here concerns those of you who attended North School, which is now nothing more than a well-seeded field waiting for a beautiful new building. That new building is a result of a successful levy vote passed by the school district residents in 2011.

As a kickoff to that levy event, a rally was held at North School prior to its demolition where about 150 people gathered for a short, enthusiastic rally. One of the offerings was a T-shirt which had been rolled out several years before and we bought the last 2 in the world... we thought.Just before demolition of North School started, the City Schools sponsored a tribute to North attended by Veneta (Wilson) Throppe, our art teacher, along with Barbara Brown-Klinker, Julia Brown-Farmer, Alan Hale. Charlotte Carnes-Mulrooney, and me. Alan and I wore our T-shirts and were asked by a couple of folks about the T-shirts. I located the maker of the T-shirts and can now offer them to you. The prices depend on the number of shirts we order; 1-25 or 26-50, If you would like to buy a T-Shirt, contact me with your commitment to purchase and we will see how many accept, therefore dictating the final price. The quality of the shirt is quite good, by the way. If we get less than 25 shirts, each will be $6.75 for sizes Sm. thru 1x, add $ 2.50 ea. for 2x and 3x. More than 25 ordered, the shirts will be $6.25 ea. with the $2.50 addition for 2x and 3x.

Anyone out there want to add on the back of the shirts “Graduated 1955”? This would add a cost of $1.75 for 1-25 shirts, or $1.25 for more than 25 shirts. See photo of T-Shirt (here).

So, at this point I need to hear if you want a shirt, or shirts, and do you want it also printed on the back. I will give this article and the e-mails I send a month to work (appx. July 1) and then I will add an order blank here on this web page as well as send one to each of you who has reserved a shirt. If you live locally, we can arrange to get it (or them) to you, or you can opt to get it (or them) at the fast approaching 2014 55th LHS59 Reunion.Speaking about a 2014 Reunion, I am assuming that our class president, Joe Clark, has probably started to think about it and will be forming the 55th Reunion Committee soon. Also, please send any information you might have about yourself or others in the Class of ’59 and I will try to be more diligent at making this a truly “Current Events” page. Tille

August 27, 2012 Classmates,

Just thought you might like to either come to Lancaster to see your old elementary school, or make arrangements with someone here to get pictures of North School since December is coming soon when North will be in the annals of history only. Actually, October will be a safer (probably will still be standing) time to see our alma mater. You will be able to visit North during the Halftime Homecoming. Hope you are planning to join the fun at the Old Railroad Depot on October 6, 2012. My fervent hope is that they can save the chiseled stone above the front door and incorporate it in the new school (See E-G Story). Since the new Director of Human Services for Lancaster City Schools is the son of a classmate, maybe we will have an ear for that 'hope'.See you in October,

Tillie: See: Announcements: https://lhs59.org/reunplancom.htm

I am back... We have begun the preliminary planning to explore whether or not we should have a Homecoming in October, 2012. The new planning committee will be holding meetings soon. We will let you know as the planning develops. Your input is important.
